Kelimutu Lake


The trip to the island of Flores in particular to Ende will not complete if you have not visited Lake Kelimutu or Lake Three Color. Kelimutu Lake is a lake that holds many stories and mysteries.
The lake is known for its three colors, namely red, blue, and white. However, the colors are always changing over time. Now only two of the three lake colors are brown, while the other is green.Kelimutu is a combination of words
Keli meaning mountain and Mutu word which means to boil. According to local belief, the colors on the lake Flores has the meaning of each and have a very powerful force of nature.
Kelimutu Lake or Tiwu divided into three sections that correspond to the colors that exist in the lake. Blue lake or Nuwa Muri Koo Fai Tiwu a gathering place for the souls of young people who had died red lake or Tiwu Ata Polo is a gathering place for the souls of the dead and as long as he lived always commit a crime or magick. While the lake is white or Tiwu Ata Mbupu a gathering place for the souls of parents who have died.
Morning is the best time to witness the beauty of Lake Kelimutu. Meanwhile, mid-morning, especially late afternoon, usually Kelimutu lake view will be blocked by the thick fog.
Besides Kelimutu lake, can also be witnessed another natural beauty of Kelimutu National Park as a Protected Forest overgrown pine and fir trees and chirping of the birds that inhabit the National Park Kelimutu.
Natural wealth Kelimutu lake is supported also by the form of the traditional cultural heritage, traditional dance and craft weaving that are characteristic of local residents. Besides that, there are hot springs, waterfalls, and indigenous settlements shall ye go. If you want to visit, the best time is between July and September.
